Her story
I grew up in Cascais, the daughter of a fisherman who read Pessoa out loud to the sea. The coast was the backyard. The Atlantic was the lesson. I learned to surf before I learned to read.
Lisbon is fifteen minutes on the train and a different world. I live in Mouraria now, in a flat that's too steep to carry anything heavy up, and I own almost nothing worth carrying. What I have instead is more mornings than I deserve on good waves.
